Just a stone's throw from the Place de la Concorde lies an institution: Toraya. It's been 38 years since the Japanese house opened its doors in Paris. And we're not even talking about the house's creation, which dates back five centuries to 1520! It is one of Japan's oldest traditional patisseries. Aren't we lucky to have a store in Paris?
Here, everything is done in the purest Japanese tradition, from the choice of ingredients (azuki, wasambon-tô, agar-agar, soy powder, rice flour) to the presentation of the pastries, which are veritable jewels. Toraya's flagship pastries are wagashi, traditional Japanese pastries. These little treats are an invitation to travel, relax and awaken the 5 senses.
Among the wagashi on offer are namagashi; monaka, a rice-flour wafer filled with red bean paste; yokan, a jelly pastry; and manju, a steamed brioche with red bean paste.
These marvels, as pretty as they are tasty, can be enjoyed on site in the tea room, accompanied by a good green tea or matcha tea prepared in the pure Japanese tradition.
This is the place to go for fans of Japanese-style desserts, or simply for those curious enough to introduce their taste buds to new flavors. What's more, every season Toraya unveils new creations to delight your taste buds!
