As the warm weather settles in Paris, we're delighted to welcome back the ice cream and sorbet season we've come to love this summer. Among the best ice creams in Paris and ice creams with original flavors, we're off to (re)discover those of master craftsman Jacques Genin.
At 133 rue de Turenne, in the heart of his immense temple to gourmet treats, featuring caramel, chocolates, fruit jellies and pastries, Jacques Genin also offers delicious ice creams all summer long.
At Jacques Genin, there's no need to look for the tubs of ice cream piled up in front of you. That's not to say there isn't a wide choice, though. In fact, for its ice creams, the renowned chocolatier offers all its flavors turbiné minute in pacojet before your very eyes, on demand.
Forget the tubs of ice creams and sorbets, all frozen, crystallized, air-dried and often compact. At Jacques Genin, there's no waiting, it's made in front of you as you taste, and of course, the texture of the ice cream is incomparable. Here, recipes are 100% natural, and the real taste of fruit, vegetables and other herbs and spices can be found. As for the composition, we love the maximum use of fresh produce and barely 10% sugar in all recipes, for the silkiest of results.
When it comes to flavors, Jacques Genin offers classic and unavoidable flavors , but they're so well done that we rediscover the scent of ice creams such as coffee, chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut and pistachio.
The vanilla is made from delicious Tahitian vanilla beans, as fresh and plump as they come. As for the pistachio ice cream, the roasting of the dried fruits is pushed to the limit to reveal all the flavors of this perfume we adore. For hazelnuts, the chef highlights the qualities of Piedmont hazelnuts.
On the sorbet side, we find purely seasonal flavors such as strawberry, raspberry, mango, melon, cherry and, in September, fig. It's the last days of the Mara des Bois strawberry ice cream, with its plump flesh," says the chef, "after this week, good strawberries are out, and we're changing flavors.
But the chocolatier also offers more original flavors that we recommend you try out, you'd be surprised. For example, we were able to discover amazing ice creams with tarragon, zucchini and asparagus, with parsley that explodes in the mouth, or with divine peas. A true revelation that we warmly (or freshly) recommend.
This year, for health reasons, no more cones: everything comes in little pots to be eaten with a spoon. Count €5 for a scoop of ice cream, or €8 for both on request. The store on rue de Turenne is open every day except Monday, from 11am to 7pm, and offers ice cream at all hours from early morning.
