Why choose between a coffee shop and a bistro when you can opt for a place that does both, depending on the time of day? Let's head for the 9th arrondissement to discover Kanopé, the protean new place that has just opened its doors under the impetus of restaurateurs Antoine Le Vu and Romain Le Pape .
The pair, who previously ran the Kozy Bosquet café, unveil theirnew hybrid address, with executive chef Miguel Rijo behind the stoves. Kanopé is a daytime coffee shop offering the great New York classics of the genre.
A la carte, from breakfast to lunch, you'll find everything you need for brunch every day of the week: brioche perdue, acai bowls and, of course, pancakes with praline-chocolate sauce and praline cream, poached egg and slices of bacon, or crème montée and seasonal fruit.
On the savoury side, Kanopé 's daytime menu also includes Hot Beef, a plump bun topped with shredded beef, spicy sauce and crunchy vegetables, served with panisse fries; Fish Bun with sustainable salmon patty and fresh herbs; and Truffle Mac & Cheese, to nibble on with a coffee, smoothie or, why not, a cocktail in hand.
But after 7pm, Kanopé changes face and transforms into a small bistro with small plates to share, natural wines and signature cocktails. The focus is on vegetable dishes, such as roasted cauliflower with chimichurri, roasted carrots with labneh and pistachio nougatine, or grilled asparagus with smoked paprika hollandaise sauce.
But fish lovers will turn to pollack nuggets dipped in a herbed yoghurt sauce, while carnivores will appreciate a fine selection of carefully sourced charcuterie, knife-edged beef tartare with worcestershire sauce mayonnaise, or katsu chicken with Cajun spice marinade, oriental-style white cabbage salad and bulldog sauce.
So, would you like to discover this new spot by day or by night?
