How about travelling to Italy? Head to Piadineria 14.07, an Italian restaurant set in Paris 11tha arrondissement, rue Saint-Sabin, a stone’s throw from Place de la Bastille. A restaurant serving piadine… But what are piadine? This is an Italian culinary specialty (but you got it already…), coming from Emilia-Romagna, in the north of the country.
This restaurant was born out of manager Franco Stagni’s passion for piadine over 20 years ago. Open in 2017, the restaurant aims at doing everything by the book, complying with tradition: the piadine dough is homemade with flour especially imported from Italy, water, salt, extra virgin olive oil, yeast… and that is it! Then, the dough is cooked and spread right away, then garnished with the best of Italy: hams and cold cuts, PDO cheeses, seasonal vegetables… As many good things packed with sun!
A piadina (singular for piadine in Italian) comes in as a dish or a dessert thanks to crescioni, a sort of thinner piadine dough shaped as a Calzone. Whether garnished with mozzarella, ham, tuna, or Nutella or pistachio cream they can be easily carried out and enjoyed street-food style. Please also note the house served a lunch menu and another one, more generous, for dinner. And for people who wants to see bigger, the place also works as a catering restaurant, offering mini-sized piadine and focaccias.
We tried the piadine of course... The thin and super crispy dough is a pure delight. Homemade, they are super light and stuffed with ingredients coming straight from Italy. We went for the piadina with Sicilian pistachios based on pistachio, Italian ham and mozzarella, as well as for the vegetarian piadina with vegetables including zucchinis, eggplants and sundried tomatoes, among others. A wonderful taking you straight to Bologna, in the Italian sun!
We also went for two beautiful focaccias with white ham for the first one and vegetables for the second one (tomatoes, arugula, artichokes...). A splendid discovery, even lighter than you may think, and very indulging. As for drinks, some chinotto, a typically Italian drink based on the eponymous fruit (chinotto is a bitter citrus fruit), a sort of sparkling and bitter cola. As for dessert, some pistachio crescione (with pistachio paste to die for!), and mini limoncello babas. The best way to wrap up your meal for sure. A wonderful restaurant we highly recommend if you love Italian food! And a good way to make the most of the summer and enjoy the sun with wonderful products coming straight from Italy. Andiamo, ragazzi?
