For aficionados ofavocado toast, guacamole and much more, here's an address that should make your mouth water. In Paris, in the Etienne Marcel district, a leafy spot has set up shop just a stone's throw from Les Halles and the Centre Pompidou. This is the first French address for The Avocado Show, an astonishing concept straight out of Amsterdam that lets you enjoyavocado in all its forms, while promising an eco-responsible approach.
Inside, you'll discover a trendy, convivial setting: between pink banquettes, wicker chairs and a green wall, it's a good-vibes spot that awaits you here. A glance at the menu will convince you. Here, brunch regulars will be delighted to find their favorite gourmet highlights available all week long. From appetizer to dessert to cocktails, avocado is the common thread running through theAvocado Show menu.
Sustainable avocado?! How is this possible?
It's a well-known fact that, while avocados are praised for their flavour and nutritional qualities, their consumption also has harmful effects on the environment. The fruit is extremely water-hungry (it takes an estimated 1,000 liters of water to produce 1kg of avocado), its export from Latin America has a heavy carbon footprint, and some producers go so far as to clear forests illegally.
So, can a restaurant in France dedicated to avocados be eco-responsible? That's what The Avocado Show is out to prove. According to their commitments, the restaurant partners with eco-responsible and ethical farms, and the avocados are 100% organic. To compensate for high water consumption, drip irrigation is used. Producers also use intelligent composting and reforestation. Slow transport is favored for avocados from Chile, Mexico, Peru, Spain and South Africa. The restaurant also strives for zero waste. Waste is reused for compost, pits for ice cubes and the restaurant uses no gas, only electricity.
As we peruse the menu, our hearts sway: toast, nachos, pancakes, eggs, poké, burgers... there's something for everyone with healthy and often original recipes. However, here are a few tips to help you make the right choice. First of all, the salads are very hearty, so make sure you've got the appetite for them! If you're curious, we recommend you try theAvo garden and the Avo Fries as starters. The former is a creamy avocado hummus that you can mix yourself, while the latter features avocado fries accompanied by a truffle mayonnaise. How original is that?
On the main course, we couldn't pass up the smoked salmon croissant with fromage frais, hollandaise sauce, avocado slices (of course!) and a runny poached egg for a satisfying experience. A good choice, since for the pastries and bread, The Avocado Show has teamed up with The French Bastards, one of our favorite bakeries in Paris. We were also impressed by the Fun burger, with its buns replaced by avocado halves, and the Mango Tango, a reinterpretation of theavocado toast with mango.
To accompany this supercharged meal, theAvocado Show also unveils an intriguing cocktail menu. Alongside the familiar recipes, there are a number of variations on avocado. The Guaca Mary should delight lovers of spicy flavors, with its composition based on vodka, tequila, guacamole, lime juice, agave syrup and seasoning. We also love theAvo Bellini, with avocado purée and Prosecco.
The heat of theParisian summer has led us to fall for a frosted dessert: avocado and peanut butter ice cream, the recipe for which was devised by Glazed, one of the capital's most unusual ice cream parlors. It's safe to say that theAvocado Show has surrounded itself well!
