If you have a craving for the sea, here is the right address that should satisfy your desire for maritime flavors. In the heart of the 12th arrondissement of Paris, on the rue de Charenton, a spot that looks like a beach hut is waiting for you to enjoy a delicious marine aperitif. Le Coqui is the name of this gourmet address with an excellent quality-price ratio for the greatest happiness of oyster and seafood lovers in general.
Here, it's a family business run by two brothers, Timothy and Jeremy. Together, they have given themselves the mission of democratizing and dusting off the seafood platter through an affordable offer in a trendy and friendly setting. To help them in their mission, their father, Bruno Gauvain, Meilleur Ouvrier de France Écailler, sources the products to guarantee the freshest shellfish!
What we love here are the Coqui Mer, perfect for taking to the sea. There is the Coqui Vin, with 6 oysters and a glass of white wine offered for less than 10€ during Happy Hour, but also the very gourmet Coqui Céan, a seafood platter that is already impressive, offered for about 60€ and including 12 oysters (Fines de claire n°3 or Spéciales Gillaudeau n°4), a crab, Bulots, four langoustines and pink shrimps. To be shared with two glasses of wine, it allows you to enjoy a beautiful moment of greediness at an affordable price!
The tasting leaves no room for doubt as to the freshness of the products: the crab meat is deliciously melting, the shrimps are full of flavor and oyster lovers will not be left out! Lovers of specials will find the sweetness they are looking for, while those who prefer iodized flavors will find their happiness with the fines de claire.
If at the time of our visit, the langoustines were not available, Le Coqui adapted by proposing us a tarama of the House Barthouil, a true institution. Without coloring and composed of 70% of wild cod, it regales us with its very pronounced taste! Imagine it in an atmosphere where the spirit of vacation reigns with a setting inspired by a beach hut and to the rhythm of Cuban music... Here it is, that moment of escape that we needed!
If the seafood is not unanimous in your group of friends, rest assured! This tapas bar intends to put everyone in agreement by proposing also a menu Coqui Terre, with formulas as profitable as the Coqui Mer, by putting this time the charcuterie in the honor.
Moreover, for the sweet tooths, there will be one last stop to make before setting sail: the homemade chocolate mousse, with an airy texture, whose cocoa taste is pronounced enough to please the purists without creating that sensation of saturation.
