Paris 2024 Olympic handover eventually has to do without the giant flag on the Eiffel Tower. Before being given the Olympic flame - symbolizing the handover from Tokyo Olympics to Paris 2024 - the Organization Committee planned to deploy a huge Olympic flag on the famous Parisian flagship. But because of the bad weather and the very strong wind at the top, the operation has been cancelled by the Paris authorities.
And yet, this Tuesday June 8, many people have been able to see a giant flag flying above the top of the Eiffel Tower. Even more surprising, this flag is decorated with drawings and logos that do not seem to make a lot of sense. Artistic happening? Advertising campaign? Many people wondered about what this flag means.
Paris City Hall did not want to address it. Live on France 2 tv channel, this Saturday, the flag is indeed linked to the 2024 Summer Olympics and shows the Olympic rings. This Saturday August 8, 2021 at 1 p.m. will take place Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony, handing over to Paris, the next host. Viewers from all over the world will then admire the olympic flag at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
A technical exploit since this 5,800sqm flag is "as big as a soccer field", as Anne Hidalgo's former deputy mayor for sports and current head of the Eiffel Tower exploitation company François Martins told Le Parisien this past June.
A show you do not want to miss, including a flight over the Eiffel Tower and the famous flag by the Patrouille de France, as well as a concert by Woodkid at the Trocadero, with the Orchestre National de France and the Maîtrise de Radio France. Before the Olympic Flag travels France, as Anne Hidalgo wished.
Paris 2024 Olympics do not seem so far away, now.
