It’s one of the greatest constructions in France. Solideo, aka the Olympic Delivery Authority, unveils the first pictures of the project of the upcoming Olympic Village in Seine-Saint-Denis. Including one priority: meeting environmental demands.
Here’s a pharaonic project that covers over 50 hectares. And of course, this large surface – said to change the face of Saint Ouen and Seine-Saint-Denis – can only be the adage of one company. First, the winning projects for the construction of the two biggest areas of the future neighborhood have been announced. For the sector D, the jury chose Caisse des Dépôts subsidiary. And for the sector E, it’s Nexity and Eiffage who get the prize. Constructor Bouygues remains empty-handed since none of their projects will be carried out.
Moreover, the project is included in the thick urban area in Saint-Ouen and Seine-Saint-Denis. An Olympic Village like this has never been seen before! Only one goal: making of this building a reference in terms of eco-friendly urban planning. On this, the only two instructions to follow are using as much wood as possible and not build buildings over 8 stories.
In the same time, the carbon footprint of each premise built should be decreased by 40% in comparison with classic constructions. About 1200 trees and 5000 shrubs are said to be planted to air the soil and provide many delightful green areas. As a consequence, this neighborhood will be one of the first low carbon neighborhoods in France.
Set by the Carrefour Pleyel metro station in Saint-Ouen, the building complex will welcome for the Olympics, about 16000 athletes. Then, from 2025, the buildings will accommodate about 2000 families. Moreover, many parts will be used to settle offices and welcome up to 6000 people. A new neighborhood will soon accommodate new inhabitants. Saint-Ouen and Seine-Saint-Denis as well as the northern part of Paris will be entirely renewed.
