"Beautiful night, ohnight of love, smile at our intoxications...". This aria, you recognize it, it is indeed the barcarolle, taken from Jacques Offenbach's fantastic opera, The Tales of Hoffmann and that theOpéra Bastille stages from January 21 to February 14, 2020. A work paying tribute to the fantastic realism in literature through its main character, Hoffmann, and"where all verisimilitude is abolished and where the imagination imposes its own rules".
An opera in three acts, prologue and epilogue, where Hoffmann evokes his memories of love while leading us"into a universe where the boundaries between dream and reality are porous. Among his conquests evoked, Olympia, Antonia and Giuletta for the three acts, Stella for the epilogue, and an introductory prologue involving the Muse, having taken the features of the poet's best friend, Nicklausse.
A staging signed here, for theOpéra Bastille, by Robert Carsen, who proposes a mise en abyme, for a unique dive into the backstage of the opera. An opportunity to discover - or rediscover - one of the most popular French works performed in the world. Shall we reserve a seat, friends?
