An opportunity to discover a great work... TheOpéra Bastille offers several performances of one of Jean-Philippe Rameau's seminal operas of the Age of Enlightenment, Les Indes Galantes, from September 27 to October 15, 2019. A"dazzling entertainment" and Rameau's first opera-ballet, it bears witness to the ambiguous view that Europeans can take of the rest of the world(Turk, Inca, Persian, Savage...).
An opera-ballet directed by Clément Cogitore, already behind an"explosive and highly acclaimed" film adaptation in 2017. For the choreography, the director called on Bintou Dembélé, one of the pioneers of Hip Hop in France. Divided into five acts (a prologue, four entrances), Les Indes Galantes invites the audience to discover different stories around several "civilizations". A sort of Persian Letters in reverse, this marvelous poetic machine takes us on an unforgettable journey outside Europe, discovering new lands and traditions and revealing different slices of life.
It's an opportunity to discover a work not necessarily well known to the general public, and to savor the prologue in particular, a typical example of composition in the purest Lullyste tradition, with harpsichord and all the rest. How about a trip to the opera, folks?
