For lovers of contemporary history, a museum dedicated to the resistance during the Second World War awaits you in the capital. The Musée de la Libération de Paris - musée du général Leclerc - musée Jean Moulin was inaugurated at the end of August 2019 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. Originally located above the Montparnasse train station, the museum moved to the heart of the capital, Place Denfert-Rochereau,"in the pavilions designed by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux". The choice of location was no accident, since it was through the Place Denfert-Rochereau that General Leclerc liberated Paris from Nazi occupation. The fully restored building offers history buffs"a new visitor experience, thanks to innovative mediation tools".
The permanent collections are arranged chronologically, presenting each stage of the conflict"with a clear, didactic approach". The aim? To"pass on this fundamental page of history to as many people as possible". In all, more than 7,000 original documents, objects and photographs, as well as archive videos and eyewitness accounts, are on display.
And the icing on the cake: the chance to visit a former underground resistance shelter. A unique anti-aircraft shelter, for a museum that reinvents itself, with a view to offering a new immersive vision of history, thanks in particular to the possibility of visiting this shelter in augmented reality and meeting Colonel Rol Tanguy. Between the wars, the Resistance, the African campaign, D-Day and the Liberation of Paris... We follow the careers of Jean Moulin and General Leclerc. Two sacred monsters of French history who guide our steps for a total immersion.
