After celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Jeu de Paume continues to honor images... Even animated ones! The center for photographic art is opening its own cinema from November 12, 2024.
This cultural institution, located in the Tuileries Gardens on the edge of Place de la Concorde, is already well known to art and photography enthusiasts. Conferences, tours and exhibitions allow the public to discover or rediscover important artists, big names in photography as well as young talents.
With its new"art et essai" cinema, the Jeu de Paume also aims to spotlight the filmmakers and artists of the 7th art. The art center should therefore screen films that shake up the codes of cinema and narrative, as well as more confidential films dealing with subjects or cultures that are little represented in France. The CNC adds that the "art et essai" label is also awarded to cinemas that program " a majority of 'singular' works". The films presented must have undeniable qualities, without having obtained the audience they deserved. "
The Jeu de Paume will focus its programming on the themes of "Research and Discovery", promoting independent cinema. The new screening room will also keep abreast of current events in the film world, offering special programs in conjunction with festivals.
Film buffs should be able to enjoy 400 screenings a year, with child-friendly films on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, and during school vacations. The auditorium can accommodate 90 spectators: a limited capacity, but one that should encourage exchanges when guests are present to interact with the public, assures the art center.
The program for this new cinema can be found on the Jeu de Paume website.
