This is sure to please video game fans! Scheduled for completion in 2026, the world's largest video game museum, Odyssée, will open its doors in Bussy-Saint-Georges, Seine-et-Marne. This ambitious project, spearheaded by YouTubeur Benoît Theveny, better known under the pseudonym Tev, came to fruition thanks to a participatory funding campaign, and even received the support and high patronage of President Emmanuel Macron.
In the heart of the Seine-et-Marne region, Odyssée promises total immersion in the world of video games through a dedicated 3,500 m² space. This initiative, which was launched in the wake of Paris Games Week 2023, aims to retrace the history of video games through the world's largest collection of consoles. In total, more than 2,200 items assembled by Ludovic Charles attracted some 22,000 contributors, raising over 1.75 million euros before the fund-raising campaign closed.
But Odyssée is more than just an exhibition of iconic consoles and games. The project envisages the creation of a veritable Japanese village within the museum, featuring stores, restaurants and a host of activities celebrating Japanese popular culture, a country that was a precursor and pivotal player in thevideo game industry.
This extra dimension is designed to enrich the visitor experience, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of Japanese streets, known for their close ties with the video game industry. What's more, thanks to cutting-edge technology, the museum also offers a hybrid experience throughout the visit around gaming andeSports, notably through interactive workshops.
President Macron, in a statement broadcast on Tev's Twitch channel Ici Japon, expressed his admiration for the project's ability to unite such a large community, and his commitment to facilitating the realization of this temple dedicated to the art of video games. The convergence of culture, history and technology seems to find in the Odyssey Museum a promising expression, both a testimony to the past and a vector of inspiration for the future of video games. We look forward to 2026!
