Every year, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) invite us to immerse ourselves in the treasures of the Paris region. In the four corners of theÎle-de-France region, museums, castles, craftsmen's workshops, major institutions, monuments and other surprising places reveal their secrets to us through an ultra-vitamin program of visits and events, often free and sometimes designed for young and old alike. Every year, Paris and the surrounding region get in on the act, and exceptional openings of places usually closed to the public are also on the menu for this exceptional weekend of cultural discoveries.
At the gateway to Paris, at the terminus of line 1, the town of Vincennes, on the edge of the eponymous wood and famous for its château, invites us to join it for the 41st Heritage Days to discover its history and monuments. It's the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover this charming commune of Val-de-Marne, close to the capital and brimming with good addresses and ideas for outings. Here's the program for the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024.

In the Bois de Vincennes
This lake, so close to Paris, is astonishingly diverse in terms of bird species.
Of course, there are waterfowl such as the mute swan and Canada geese, but also moorhens and coots.
The elegant great crested grebe.
Sometimes kingfishers come to catch small fish!
In the surrounding trees, numerous passerines: titmice, goldfinches, finches, robins and blackbirds.
Finally, the green woodpecker is never far away, and the great spotted woodpecker can regularly be seen.
Tour departs from Vincennes Town Hall
2 Treasure Hunts, 1 for kids and 1 for adults, are waiting for you!
"Dear Resident, Dear Visitor,
Doctor Orpheus Athleticus needs your help! He's trying to design the ultimate sport, one that brings together the best of everything that exists and has existed. All he needs is a few extracts from unusual and ancient sports to place in his Synthesium.
Your mission: to go in search of the last ingredients to help him create THE ultimate sport!"
Top start! Between 11am and 3pm, pick up your booklet in front of Vincennes Town Hall. Armed with your "Families" or "Adults" booklet, you'll wander the streets for 1h or 1h30 in search of clues to the solution to your challenge.
Along the way, actors will be waiting to help you in your quest... But, in exchange, you'll have some challenges to face... Will they be sporting? Comic? As you'll see, it all depends on what Doctor Athleticus has in store for you!
If you find the right final answer, you'll be given a ballot. Once completed, you'll need to slip the ballot into the ballot box BEFORE 5pm.
Come dressed up in a "crazy sportsman" theme - you're in for a real treat!
There will be a prize draw starting at 5:15pm; you'll need to be present, otherwise the prize will be put back into play.
12 prizes will be awarded to 12 winning teams. The "Best Costume Prize" will also be awarded. There are some very big prizes up for grabs for young and old alike: a gourmet holiday, gourmet meals at the Hippodrome, shows, an annual pass to the zoo for every player on the team...
Game rules and prize values available on request from the Tourist Office and at: https: //tourisme-vincennes-marnebois.fr
New game, co-produced by the City of Vincennes and the Paris Est Marne et Bois Tourist Office, with the participation of Ma Langue Au Chat and the support of the Hippodrome Paris Vincennes and the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle.
On the Town Hall esplanade
Some twenty craftsmen and women in a wide variety of fields (jewelry, ceramics, bookbinding, stained glass, cabinetmaking, leatherwork, featherwork, straw marquetry, cutlery, illustration...) will be showcasing their work and demonstrating their skills.
At Vincennes Town Hall
Come and discover the building's particularly remarkable interior decorations: painted decorations, wrought ironwork, mosaics... representative of the two construction periods: the late 19th century and the interwar period.
The Town Hall illustrates both the neo-Renaissance style, modelled on the Paris Town Hall of the early Third Republic, and the Art Deco style, with the remarkable interior decorations created when it was enlarged in 1935.
Some of these exceptional decorations have led to the building being classified as a Historic Monument. Restoration work on the facades (2020-2023) has restored the building to its former glory.
On the forecourt of Vincennes town hall
Continuous screening of Pascal Toussaint's film Max-à-Vincennes, which evokes the golden age of silent cinema in Vincennes by superimposing present-day views of the town's streets with shots from films shot by Max Linder in the same streets at the beginning of the 20th century.
12-minute film projected with period equipment...
