The Eiffel Tower is the most appreciated landmark by tourists, but there’s an issue, they often get off at Trocadero to take a picture with the iconic Tower in the background, and then, they hesitate to walk the long Pont d’Iéna to come closer. From 2023, this won’t happen again thanks to a magnificent garden covering 54 hectares and said to come and brighten the neighborhood up. The project has been validated by Mairie de Paris, wishing to embellish Paris for the 2024 Olympics.
If you like the idea, a video comes and presents the project and it looks crazy. The garden is said to start from the Place du Trocadero including a part of the round about will be filled with plants. Below, a promenade will take Parisians and tourists all the way to the Eiffel Tower and the Ecole Militaire. It will also include food areas, concierge’s lodges and services suiting Parisians and tourists.
The project has been designed by British landscaper and architect Kathryn Gustafson who has been selected after the calls for project. Sum of the investment? A budget of 72 million euros planned by the City.
According to deputy mayor entrusted with town planning, architecture and Grand Paris project Jean Louis Missika: “It’s not about reinventing the Eiffel Tower but enhance it by connecting it with its environment whether it’s the Seine, the Trocadero or the Champs-de-Mars”. The construction will be divided into two parts: the team should plant the Trocadero-Place Jacques-Rueff (in the middle of the Champs-de-Mars) part before 2023 and works will resume after the Olympics 2024, with the Champs-de-Mars – Ecole Militaire area. The project will be delivered in 2030.
