The coronavirus epidemic keeps on spreading across the world. How have States responded to the pandemic? Facing the health crisis, the governments try and bring means to curb its spread and protect the population from the virus. But sometimes, managing the crisis appeared tougher than expected. This is the case in France where the medical staff is severely lacking human and material means to cure people infected by Covid-19 in good conditions. Several solidarity waves started to come and help caretakers during these difficult times.
Today, in a virtual meeting gathering 194 member states, WHO promised an independent probe will be carried out on the matter. This is what World Health Organization (WHO) director general Tedrow Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. This investigation will be launched “at the earliest appropriate moment” he said. What is the goal of such a probe? The director general adds: “I will initiate an independent evaluation at the earliest appropriate moment to review experience gained and lessons learned, and to make recommendations to improve national and global pandemic preparedness and response”. It will enable to identify the main dysfunctions that have been noticed throughout this health crisis and improve the respond of States to the pandemic. A topic French Health Minister Olivier Véran is already working on after Emmanuel Macron’s mea culpa on the health system reform in public hospitals in 2018.
