Coronavirus: Paris public prosecutor launches an investigation on the managing of the crisis

Paris prosecutor Rémy Heitz launched this Monday June 8 an investigation for “involuntary manslaughter and battery” and “endangering the lives of others”. The goal being to examine possible offences administration leaders might have committed, especially in the health sector.

This Monday June 8, Paris public prosecutor has launched a preliminary investigation to shine a light on the health crisis managing by French administration leaders. Charges against person unknown targeting health director general Jérôme Salomon and Santé Publique France agencies, as well as the prison administration, and the ministry of labor have been pressed.

So, offences of “endangering the lives of the others”, “involuntary manslaughter and battery”, and “failure to assist a person in danger” are condemned by Paris public prosecutor. This Tuesday June 9, French prosecutor general Rémy Heitz has told the AFP about launching this wide investigation.

In concrete words, the magistrate defended himself against hiding any political or ill-intentioned goal behind this decision, saying the investigation “is not here to define political or administrative responsibilities” but only to “shine a light on possible criminal offenses” from our leaders. Sole the members of the government and the head of State remain not criminally responsible, since the law court of the Republic will have to manage the twenty-four complaints against them.
