Barely in the third wave, a fourth wave seems to be already on its way. This Sunday January 17, 2021, epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet was invited on Le Grand Jury show on RTL radio station. As France is fighting on two fronts to limit the spread of variants on one hand, and to speed the vaccine campaign up on the other hand, the specialist says that despite everything, people should expect a likely epidemic spike by March, naming one year after the first nationwide lockdown in France.
“Scenarios show that we can make it to March. Unfortunately, given variants – that truly make a big difference in this epidemic – I have no rational argument to tell you we are not going to suffer from the epidemic spread that could start in March-April” he said. He went on, “the goal is to stop the virus from spreading, including more contagious variants, the vaccinal cover shall be greater”.
The epidemiologist also said he was for vaccinating children. A prospect also considered by the government.
