On the occasion of an interview with students from Sciences Po, Olivier Véran stated that by May 19, the Covid contamination told should have dropped under 15,000 cases. A number that should enable to “take control over the epidemic again”, the Health Minister claimed.

An optimistic goal in terms of Covid cases! On the occasion of an interview with students from Sciences Po, Olivier Véran said the case toll should – according to the recent health indicators – drop under the threshold of 15,000 contaminations as of May 19. “In two weeks’ time, we should be somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000 cases per day”, he explained.

An estimation relying on statistics, but most of all on a decreasing trend: “There were 40,000 cases per day and the epidemic drops by 20 to 25% per week”, the Minister added. Before explaining this milestone should enable the government to “take control over the epidemic again thanks to the testing-alerting-protecting tryptic”. Same thing for the decreasing hospitalization toll: “What we have been noticing is there is a decreasing number of clinical patients, and even fewer patients in ICU – there are still too many of them, but it is decreasing”, he stated.

He went on: “But, we know today’s resuscitation matches contaminations from three weeks ago. So, we know in three weeks, there will be fewer sick in resuscitation and we would have been able to resume surgeries”. He concluded: “Control over the epidemic, resuming of surgeries scheduled equaling the lifting of constraints because they feel like a burden for the French”. For the record, the Health Minister stated this Tuesday May 4 he hopes facemasks should be ditched outdoor by the summer.
