Coronavirus – Fifth wave: towards new restrictions in France for the Holidays?

While the coronavirus case toll is sharply increasing in France, the government could be gathering for a new defense council this Friday December 17, 2021. Shall new restrictions be expected?

As expected by the scientific community, a fifth epidemic wave has hit France this Fall 2021. A rise in cases caused by the Delta variant but that could also be influenced by the arrival of the Omicron variant, a new mutation of the virus worrying the whole world.

To fight against the coronavirus epidemic and this increase in contaminations, the government made new measures likely to be announced for the Holidays. "The fifth wave is probably the strongest we have ever experienced since the pandemic began", Olivier Véran acknowledged this Wednesday December 15 at the National Assembly. According to several sources, a new health defense council is to be held this Friday afternoon.

The executive is expected to instated "accompanying measures" for the Holidays can be as safe as possible. LCI also speaks of the possibility of shortening the time period between the second and third dose to boost the booster shot campaign.

So, what are the measures considered? During his latest press brief, the Health Minister claimed another lockdown or curfew were not on the agenda 2021. But, vaccinating children under 12 is still on hold.
