The Lido, the famous Parisian cabaret was bought up in December by Groupe Accor, the hotel trade leader. For the record, the cabaret was no longer profitable and was losing money for years, and the pandemic did not help but speed its resale. Despite its ideal location, on the famous Avenue des Champs-Elysées, the Lido suffers from a somewhat outdated image it was struggling to get rid of.
After 76 years, the iconic Parisian night venue performed its last cabaret dinner-show this Saturday July 30, 2022. A job-saving plan has been announced by the board of directors.
According to Le Monde du Ciné, the Accor hotel group has decided to turn it into a venue devoted to musical, which management has been entrusted to Jean-Luc Choplin. He left the managing board of the Théâtre Marigny not long ago.
While the group was first saying they wanted to keep the place’s “cabaret vibe”, it seems it was decided to turn the historic cabaret into a mere musical show venue.
The project translates into the dimissal of 157 people within the Lido. As a matter of fact, to transform the place into a show venue, technicians and administrative staff are the only ones to keep their positions. The directorial board commits to keeping paying salaries until spring 2023. For now, negotiations go on, and are planned to end on August 12, BFMTV says.
The end of a beautiful story...
