After the season of logs, comes that of the inevitable and tasty galettes des Rois. And as always, there are plenty of them to tempt us. From the traditional frangipane galette to the more original chocolate galettes... every year, pastry chefs bend over backwards to satisfy and amaze the taste buds of even the most demanding gourmets.
But how do you choose THE galette that will delight the greatest number of people? Every year, competitions for the best almond galette are held in the Paris region. After the competition organized by the Greater Paris bakers' union for a bakery in Hauts-de-Seine, followed by the Val-d'Oise and Seine-et-Marne competitions, the Essonne Chamber of Trades and Crafts has now come up with its own. At the end of each year, a jury meets to select the best almond cake in the department.
After tasting and comparing a number of galettes, the jury delivered its verdict a few days ago, rewarding a bakery based in Athis-Mons. For those with a sweet tooth, you'll have to go to"Les Petits Gourmands" bakery in 2024 to enjoy the best almond galette in Essonne!
Stéphane Guichard and Solange Furtado won the competition in the " Company Managers " and " Employees " categories respectively, thanks to their two galettes that were as crisp as they were delicious.
In the "Chefs d'entreprise" category, Vincent Kimpe of the"Les Gourmets d'Etrechy" bakery in Etréchy-Essonne took second place, followed by Fabrice Pottier of the"Maison Pottier" bakery in Marcoussis.
Finally, in the " Apprentice " category, young Sonia Deboucha from"Boulangerie de Fleury", Fleury-Mérogis, took first prize. Congratulations to all!
