In the face of recordinflation, a financial aid package was supposed to ease the daily burden of low-income households: the government food bonus. However, according to information gathered by France Info, the French government deemed it too complex to implement the scheme on a national scale, and decided against its application.
Inflation: a food voucher "for the most modest" to be introduced in the coming months
Announced in December 2020 by Emmanuel Macron, the implementation of the food voucher should finally see the light of day in the coming months. Bruno Le Maire confirmed that aid would be granted "to the most modest". [Read more]
Nevertheless, one Île-de-France département has volunteered to test the monthly food voucher: Seine-Saint-Denis. Stéphane Troussel, the department's president, announced this last June in the Journal du Dimanche, stating that the measure should be effective from the first quarter of 2024.
The aid will be targeted at households receiving minimum social benefits, with priority given to students, pregnant women and young mothers. With an allowance of €50 per person per month for 6 months on a dedicated card valid in all food shops, this aid can really ease the financial pressure associated with food.
