In the early 1990s, Hubert Curien, Minister for Research and Space, opened the Ministry's gardens to the public, announcing a forthcoming science event to interest the general public in the field and encourage young people to enter related professions. The first edition, with the inverted name"La Science en fête", took place in 1992, bringing together centers of scientific culture, museums, research organizations and laboratories in Paris and throughout France. It was a huge success, with almost 500,000 people taking part!
The Fête de la Science is different from the Journées du Patrimoine in that it brings the whole family together forfree events and workshops. Astronomy, chemistry, physics, mathematics, meteorology - there's so much new knowledge to discover during this week dedicated to science! Each year, a national theme is highlighted, and for 2023,"Sport & Science" has been chosen for the last edition before the Olympic Games!
