If you've ever travelled by train to Amsterdam, Brussels or Cologne, you're bound to have taken one of the beautiful red Thalys trains at Gare du Nord. Further afield, you can travel to England on the famous Eurostar trains that cross the English Channel. But this week, the Thalys trains have made their last journeys, and you won't see any more of them leaving Paris! Don't worry, they're not really disappearing, but they too are becoming Eurostars, bought out by the Eurostar Group.
You'll still be able to tell them apart, as they'll keep their red color! What's more, nothing changes apart from their name and logo, as they will continue to serve the same stops in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The reason for this takeover?"We need a single, strong brand for our customers, which is the symbol of the European network we want to put in place", explained Gwendoline Cazenave, the group's managing director.
The Eurostar name is much more widely used by consumers, even though both brands have existed since 1994 and 1995. By 2024, the two brands will be unified in the services offered to travelers, with a single loyalty program. From now on, there's no point in typing Thalys into your search engine - it'll bring up Eurostar!
