Popular and closely followed by many viewers who love the rural landscapes of mainland France and the French Overseas Territories, " Le village préféré des Français " returns this week with a new and 12th edition. Still hosted by Stéphane Bern, " Le village préféré des Français " can be seen this Thursday, July 11, 2024 on France 3. While we wait to find out the results and the winning village, discover the 14 communes in competition this year.
Rich in history and culture, these 14 towns in the running for 2024 are once again located in the four corners of France. They include Île-Tudy in Finistère, Collioure in Pyrénées-Orientales, Cléron in Doubs and Gassin in Var. The Île-de-France region has not been forgotten, with one Ile-de-France commune among the 14 villages in competition. So, which village is it and where is it located?
This year, for the 12th edition of " France's favorite village ", the Ile-de-France region is represented by the commune of Thomery in Seine-et-Marne. Nestling at the entrance to the Fontainebleau forest, not far from Samois-sur-Seine and Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, Thomery is famous for its production of"Chasselas doré", considered a luxury grape from the 18th century onwards. "Today, it is still possible to admire the "long furrows" in the village and in the Jardins Salomon, more than 300 kilometers of grape walls on which vines were grown until the middle of the 20th century," states the website of France's favorite village.
The charm of the village of Thomery has seduced many artists, such as Rosa Bonheur, who decided to settle there for the rest of her life. The town of Thomery in Seine-et-Marne thus succeeds Flagy, the Ile-de-France village selected in 2023 to represent the region on the show. " It's a great opportunity for our commune, with its undeniable heritage assets, to defend the colors of the Île-de-France region and benefit from national visibility," said Bruno Michel, mayor of Thomery.
So, will Thomery be voted France's favorite village in 2024, succeeding Esquelbec ( Hauts-de-France), last year's winner? Find out this Thursday, July 11, by watching the show on France 3!
