Storm Nelson and its violent winds, currently raging in France, are also impacting traffic in the Ile-de-France region. Indeed, the effects of the storm on the Ile-de-France transport network were not long in coming this Thursday, March 28, 2024.
Transilien users are facing major disruptions, particularly on lines U and L, following the fall of a tree on the tracks at Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine), causing a total halt to traffic on line U and disruptions on line L.
The Transilien U line, linking La Défense to La Verrière, has been at a complete standstill since this morning, following a major incident: a tree, victim of the gusts of wind caused by storm Nelson, fell onto the catenaries near Saint-Cloud, obstructing the track. SNCF quickly reported the incident on its X (ex-Twitter) account, announcing a total interruption in traffic and forecasting an initial resumption at 5:30pm.
SNCF's initial estimates were that traffic would resume at 5.30pm and then 6.30pm. However, due to the work required to restore the line to its original state, the resumption time has been pushed back to 9:30pm.
The situation is also affecting Line L, which is experiencing a service interruption between Versailles-Rive-Droite and Saint-Cloud, in both directions. Faced with this exceptional situation, SNCF maintenance teams moved quickly to remove the tree and repair the damaged catenaries.
The City of Paris also decided to close access to its parks, anticipating wind gusts of up to 80 km/h.
Travelers are advised to regularly check traffic updates on social networks and applications dedicated to traveler information. SNCF also recommends that they explore alternative travel routes and exercise caution when travelling during this period of adverse weather conditions. Those wishing to travel to the west of Paris are invited to take line N from Paris Montparnasse to Versailles and the following towns to Rambouillet.
