As the bread festival returns to Paris from May 7 to 16, 2024, departmental competitions dedicated to this French specialty are multiplying this spring. Seine-et-Marne kicked off the festivities with the 20th trophy for the department's best traditional baguette, held in Bailly Romainvilliers on February 6. So, where can you find the best 2024 traditional baguette in Seine-et-Marne?
As revealed by the Maison de la boulangerie de Seine-et-Marne, Aux Deux Epis, a bakery located in Saint-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux, not far from Meaux, topped the podium. The establishment won in the"tradition" category, succeeding last year's winner, the Boulangerie du Parc in Chelles. The Aux Deux Epis bakery will have the honor of taking part in the regional "tradition" competition, scheduled for May on the forecourt of Notre-Dame in Paris.
Still in the"tradition" category, the Driot bakery in Boissy-le-Châtel came second, followed by Au Bom Bon Pain in Bombon.
The jury based its decision on a number of criteria, including taste, appearance, smell, baking and crumb quality.
Another category, that of"regular bread" (white baguette), and another winner with the bakery A La Tentation, located in Brie-Comte-Robert, which won all the votes. L'épi d'or in Chelles and the boulangerie Aux Deux Epis in St-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux follow close behind.
Finally, on the apprentice side, Nolhan Basquin from boulangerie Lepoire in Brie-Comte-Robert took first place in the Seine-et-Marne Best Traditional Baguette 2024 competition.
