French baguette recently got UNESCO heritage status. A national pride!

Hurray! French baguette just gets UNESCO heritage status! This Monday November 28, 2022, the United Nations heritage agency assessed the 56 applications for UNESCO’s Intangible World Heritage, including the very French baguette, alongside Algerian rai, Serbia’s prune alcohol, Cuban rum and Tunisian harissa.

Registration of the baguette is a “recognition for the community of artisan baker-pâtissier. […] The baguette is flour, water, salt, yeast - and the know-how of the craftsman”, Dominique Anract, president of the baker's federation, said.

Note the baguette itself did not get UNESCO heritage status, but the “craftsmen’s know-how and culture of the baguette”, a way to honor and preserve practices and skills. French baguette is then added to the other 530 elements already granted world heritage status.

Now, how about buying Paris best baguette 2022 to celebrate? Or visit the best bakeries in Paris and Île-de-France to get your fix of tasty bread?
