But when a warning signal is triggered at a different time, then many wonder, while others worry. So don't be surprised to hear a warning siren this Tuesday, May 14, 2024, if you find yourself in the vicinity of the Trocadero in Paris.
In a press release published on May 13, the Préfecture de Police announced that a siren from the " Réseau National d'Alerte Radio (RENAR) will be tested on May 14, 2024, between 1pm and 4:30pm, in the Trocadero area of Paris ". The aim? To test the RENAR siren.
The siren, positioned on the roof of the Musée National de la Marine, will be triggered " for 5 minutes ", warns the Préfecture de Police, adding that " the signal's range will cover a radius of around 500 meters around the museum ". However, due to the height of the building, the sound broadcast may be heard beyond this estimated perimeter " depending on the weather conditions " at the time.
The test is also intended to verify the sound coverage of the warning signal, in the run-up to the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Préfecture de police de Paris stresses that this will be an exercise. Therefore, " no action is expected from the population ". The Prefecture asks anyone likely to hear the siren not to contact the police, emergency services or the switchboards of the Prefecture de Police or the City of Paris. " Do not relay false rumors or information on social networks ", the Préfecture de Police also asks in its press release.
Introduced in 2011, the Réseau National d'Alerte Radio is a system that enables sirens to be triggered remotely via a centralized radio link. The aim? In all circumstances, to send an initial behavioral message to citizens to ensure their safety, before the associated additional information, day or night, even in the event of transmission network saturation", explains the Préfecture de police.
