France adds another medal to its trophy cabinet! On August 5, 2024, France's Angèle Hug took second place on the podium in the Kayak cross event.

France continues to collect medals at these 2024 Olympic Games. A highly significant Olympiad as the country hosts this iconic sporting competition for the first time in a century. Determined to make its mark on history, the city of Paris unveiled a spectacular opening ceremony, breaking new ground with an opening in the heart of the capital, events held in historic venues and a fuel-free Olympic cauldron in the shape of a hot-air balloon.

And the French athletes are determined to fly the flag for their country and make their mark on sporting history! So far, France, the host country, has managed to win 44 medals: 12 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze. A new one will be added to the score on August 5, 2024.

After competing in thewomen's Kayak cross events at the stade nautique in Vaires-sur-Marne, France's Angèle Hug won a silver medal. She finished in second place behind Australia, represented by Noemie Fox. In taking second place on the podium, 24-year-old Angèle Hug distinguished herself with an ingenious tactic: although she was a few meters behind the finish line, she obstructed her competitors at the last gate, deflecting the buoy with her paddle to launch her final sprint and take second place.
She remains the only French representative in the last four after Camille Prigent was eliminated.

This is the 3rd medal France has won in Canoe-Kayak this year, and the 39th in its history in this discipline.
