Statues of the 10 golden women of the opening ceremony on display at the National Assembly

One of the highlights of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was the appearance of statues of ten women, feminists and activists, to the sound of the Marseillaise, in the painting"Sororité". These monumental golden sculptures, representing female personalities from the worlds of literature, sport, politics and the arts, emerged from large pedestals installed in the Seine, near the Alexandre-III bridge.

Olympe de Gouges, Alice Milliat, Gisèle Halimi, Simone de Beauvoir, Paulette Nardal, Jeanne Barret, Louise Michel, Christine de Pizan, Alice Guy and Simone Veil were honored in a vibrant tribute to women's emancipation. In Paris, the statues are predominantly those of men, with 260 male figures against 40 female, according to the Games Organizing Committee.

Discussions are underway to bring these four-meter-high sculptures into the public space on a permanent basis, with Anne Hidalgo hoping to keep them, like the rings and the basin, to install them along rue de La Chapelle in the 18th arrondissement. In the meantime, theNational Assembly will host them in the Cour d'Honneur from September 23 to October 5, 2024!

This temporary exhibition, open to the general public free of charge, will enable visitors to admire these polymer resin sculptures, created by 3D printing and designed to withstand the elements, by registering in advance on the Assemblée nationale website. They will remain there until February, visible during visits to the monument, while awaiting a more permanent location in the future.
