After three years of waiting since the release of Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has finally confirmed the return of the Star Wars franchise to the big screen. The Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London was the scene of this long-awaited announcement, revealing the preparation of three new films exploring different eras of the intergalactic universe.
The first film, directed by James Mangold, will plunge audiences 25,000 years before the birth of Luke Skywalker, telling the story of the first Jedi. The second film, directed by Dave Filoni, will be set in the New Republic era, linking the current series(The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka...) with a new storyline. Finally, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct the third installment, set 15 years after the last trilogy, featuring British actress Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, now charged with rebuilding theJedi Order.
Although release dates have not been confirmed, fans can expect production to begin this year, with all three films scheduled for 2025, 2027 and 2029. The franchise seems to have turned a corner, with top directors at the helm of these new chapters and compelling stories to come. Patience, young Padawan, the Force will soon be back in theaters!
