This Friday, April 7, is the first day of the Star Wars Celebration. This convention, organized every year, takes stock of the future of the license and the future projects. Kathleen Kennedy, the president of LucasFilm, came to present the next movies and series of the universe. Ashoka, The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew and many films, we detail you all the announcements.

Movies and series galore, that's what's in store for Star Wars fans. And while we haven't seen the universe in theaters since 2016 with Solo - A Star Wars Story, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy promises: the wait is over. The future of Star Wars is, admittedly, mostly on Disney+, but the movie theater will very soon find the galaxy far, far away.

All these announcements, were made this Friday, April 7, during the Star Wars Celebration. This convention, which lasts until April 10, allows LucasFilm to take stock of the future of the license. And there were many exciting announcements.

The future of Star Wars series

First of all, since it's news, we learned that the last two episodes of season 3 of The Mandalorian were directed by Rick Famuiywa (he already directed several episodes of the first two seasons). No revelation about a possible season 4 has been revealed.

On the contrary, Andor has excited LucasFilm, as season 2 has been launched and is halfway shot. It will feature a new character played by Andy Serkis (perhaps the return of Snoke, whom he played in the postlogic). Expected to be released at the end of summer 2024.

Several other Star Wars series have been revealed: The Sidekick, coming in 2024, has a new logo and a funny comparison. Kathleen Kennedy sees it as the perfect mix between The Snow Queen and Kill Bill, that promises! The story will take place during the High Republic. Actors Lee Jung-Jae, Amandla Stenberg, Dafne Keen and Joonas Suotamo will be part of it. Several characters will be Jedi, including a Wookie.

Skeleton Crew, led by Jude Law, has unveiled its cast, mostly composed of children. The Goonies is a direct inspiration, according to Kennedy. Many big-name directors will sign on to Jon Watts ' series (the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy): David Lowery, the Daniels, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard and Lee Isaac Chung.

The most palpable project remains Ashoka, of which the trailer and several visuals have been revealed. It will feature cult characters from the Star Wars universe, such as Sabine or Hera (played by Mary Elisabeth Winstead). Release scheduled for August!

The future of Star Wars movies

This time, few visuals, but many announcements! Three untitled feature films are currently in pre-production.

First, a film directed by Dave Filoni, who knows the universe well (he signed The Clone Wars series, Rebels, and The Book of Boba Fett). The film will be connected to the events of The Mandalorian series.

In addition to showing a final trailer and a new poster for his Indiana Jones (also stamped LucasFilm), James Mangold will also be in charge of reinventing the Star Wars universe, with a film telling the story of the very first Jedi. This untitled project has been described as a"biblical epic".
