Nearly 20 years after his first feature film, Bye Bye Miss Goodnight, Karan Kandhari returns to feature-length fiction with Sister Midnight, his second and newest film, which has been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2024 and will therefore be unveiled during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, May 15-25.
Very little information has been released about this new project from the Indian director. So, while we wait to discover Sister Midnight in the comfortable setting of the Quinzaine des Cinéastes (for lucky festival-goers) and in French cinemas at a date yet to be announced (for other cinephiles), you'll have to be patient!
The Quinzaine des Cinéastes review: "A fantastic punk comedy, a feminist revenge movie and a vampire film revisited, Sister Midnight is an original, funny and macabre tale centered on a rebellious, misanthropic character. We follow the trials and tribulations of Uma, a young, newly-married woman who discovers the reality of married life in a Bombay slum, and whose thirst for vengeance is not about to subside."
