Attention superhero fans! Marvel's Midnight Suns, a tactical RPG revolving around the legendary supernatural team, has been available since December 2, 2022 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series (for the moment). We've tested it, and we'll tell you all about it!

Good news for Marvel's Midnight Suns! The tactical RPG, developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K, made its last appearance on December 1, with a final launch trailer. This one is clearly appealing, as we learn of Lilith's designs, with a story centered on Doctor Strange 's Sanctum Santorum and the Darkhold, the book of black magic discovered for MCU fans in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A game released the following day, December 2, 2022 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series (release on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch a little later)!

Trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns:

Previously, on October 27, 2022, 2K Games unveiled a trailer for the game's first DLC. This DLC will feature four characters: Deadpool, Venom, Morbius and Tornado. New story mode missions, skins and outfits are also planned.

And the release date was still uncertain until 2K officially announced it at the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase at D23 last September.

This postponement was explained by the development studio and publisher as a desire to give the developers more time to fine-tune the game. The game was originally scheduled for release on October 7, 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series, as announced at Summer Game Fest on June 9.

Marvel's Midnight Suns synopsis:

If you want to save the world, you'll have to forge alliances and lead the team into battle as the legendary Midnight Suns - Earth's last line of defense against the underworld.

Our review of Marvel's Midnight Suns :

Marvel's Midnight Suns is a pleasant surprise, and one that we weren't necessarily expecting on several counts! In terms of the game's plot, the story is particularly "spellbinding" (to say the least), following the adventures of a team of mystical superheroes confronted with magical and demonic phenomena.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is reminiscent of the excellent Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, released in cinemas last May, which revisited the mystical universe we love so much, with the Darkhold and certain characters more or less linked to the film, such as Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff and Agatha Harkness, seen in WandaVision, the series that led to the events of the second part of the MCU wizard's adventures. So if you're a fan of this part of the Marvel universe, this is the game for you!

Another good point is the gameplay, which is a complete departure from classic RPGs, offering RPG phases in the purest tradition, with multiple-choice dialogues, skill crafting and wandering the lands of Salem as freely as possible, but also completely different in the combat and confrontations they offer. And with good reason: the combat phases of Marvel's Midnight Suns work a bit like some JRPGs, turn-based, with the difference that each heroic ability is represented as a card, to be used with each action to trigger a reaction (cast a spell, heal a teammate, strike an enemy, etc.).

A rather far-fetched idea on paper (though common on mobile games...), but in the end it's particularly clever and works very well, enabling a much wider range of actions that are easier to implement. One example is Doctor Strange's various spells, which can be used at will here by selecting the spell card in question (if it's in your hand), something that would not have been possible - or at least limited - if they were associated with a button or button combination on the controller. Simple, effective.

On the other hand, graphically speaking, Marvel's Midnight Suns is rather average... On the one hand, you've got beautiful cinematics, with detailed, well-worked images, and on the other hand, the graphics are a bit "tacky", for want of a better expression, in the discussion phases between characters, and in particular the facial expressions and facial features are clearly lacking in detail (not to say a bit messy). It spoils the experience a little, and that's a shame.

Despite this, Marvel's Midnight Suns is an enjoyable game that will delight superhero fans and fans of tactical games alike... On your sticks!
