In Madagascar, the New Year ceremony takes place in March in a popular festival featuring festive meals, rituals and artistic performances. In 1897, the French colonial authorities abolished this festival, leading the Malagasy to celebrate it in secret, but in recent years the country has fully recovered its customs. This weekend, from March 28 to 30, 2025, the REcyclerie is hosting a festival focusing on Malagasy commitment, a great opportunity to celebrate their New Year, with free entertainment!
The TAOMBAOVAO Festival, organized by Malagasy Women Empowerment (MWE) and Ala Tetikasa, is set to immerse you in the richness of Madagascan culture, and introduce you to their civic and ecological commitment, particularly to women's autonomy and sustainable development. The program includes a solidarity market with some 15 stalls, a festive evening and a traditional music showcase featuring Malagasy artists and DJs.
To find out more about this country particularly affected by climate change, and its inhabitants, you can take part in climate frescoes, workshops and educational escape games, as well as conferences, short film screenings, traditional board games, a magical and immersive show by a storyteller, and enjoy a street food stand and a Madagascan brunch.
