Paris and the Ile-de-France region have several racecourses, used for renowned horse races and equestrian competitions throughout the year. How to get there by public transport or by car? Here are some practical tips.
Since the middle of the 19th century, horse races have multiplied in the capital's racecourses and have made it famous. Many prestigious competitions take place every year in Auteuil, Longchamp, Vincennes or Saint-Cloud.
Auteuil is a beautiful racecourse inaugurated in 1873, extending over 33 hectares, 18 of which are devoted to tracks. Longchamp is the oldest racecourse, located in the 16th arrondissement and inaugurated in 1857 in the presence of Napoleon III. The Paris-Vincennes racecourse is a circuit specialized in trotting, on the southeast side of the capital, since 1863. Saint-Cloud, more recent, is a gallop track of 2300m where 32 races are held each year. Chantilly, inaugurated in 1834, is one of the most famous racecourses in France, notably because the famous Prix de Diane Longines are held there every year. Most of these racecourses are managed by France Galop.
