For the start of 2025, the Ground Control cultural venue in the 12th arrondissement is launching a new program around the theme of"Politique partout, petit programme de lutte contre la morosité" ("Politics everywhere, a little program to combat gloom"). To mark the occasion, a new exhibition will run from January 22 to March 30, 2025, focusing on everyday objects and how they have sometimes become political over the course of history, whether it's a coat hanger or a yellow vest.
Accessible free of charge, this exhibition showcases the work of researchers, focusing on stories, gestures and individual and collective practices that overnight changed the usefulness of a banal object, diverted from its everyday use. Hangers, knitting needles, yellow vests, saucepans, bras - so many items usually found in our closets have now come out of them to call for the right to abortion, freedom and many other political causes.
A playful way of observing how these hijackings began, and how these objects mutated in the collective imagination to become powerful symbols of struggle, illustrating the social relations and power relationships that exist in the everyday life of a people. In addition to the historical context of these material changes, we also discover the testimonies of those who made, used and recycled these objects, in order to grasp their significance through stories full of humanity.
