Jane Campion The Piano unforgettable soundtrack is by him. If this score is far from summarizing Michael Nyman’s work, it shows the enormity of his talent. Genius pianist, the English septuagenarian is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians of his time. The out-and-out fans (and they are plentiful) are delighted to know the artist and his company will come to on November 23, 2018 at 8 p.m. for a unique concert at Paris Salle Pleyel.
A performance likely to be filled with emotion since the Michael Nyman Band will make the most of it to celebrate 40 years of career and highlight (with the sound on) one of the darkest pages in History, the First World War.
Conducted and composed by Michael Nyman and edited by Max Pugh, the project called “War Work: 8 Songs With Film” is a work in which are mixed archives pictures from the First World War and songs influenced by the period’s poets especially French Gaston de Ruyter and his collection called “Chansons Vieilles sur d’autres airs” as well as poets’ words such as David Bomberg, Isaac Rosenberg and Alfred Lichtenstein.
“This innovative cycle of songs mixing texts by European poets, visual abstracts from archives, pieces from the First World War, in which Nyman tells everything that has been erased from our memory: unknown soldiers – those who haven’t been found or lost their lives”, the organizers say.
