For the youngest, Zazie is inevitably known as one of the members of the jury of the show The Voice. For the others, Zazie is this inescapable French author, composer and interpreter at the origin of numerous hits produced since the beginning of the 90s, such as " Je suis un homme ", " Rue de la Paix ", " Rodéo ", " Zen " or even " Larsen ".
This Sunday, May 21, 2023, for the last and third concert of the artist in Paris, it is necessary to note that the youth was not very present at the Maroquinerie. On the contrary, the heads with slightly greying hair were much more numerous this Sunday evening in the small room of the 20th district. But Zazie can be proud to be able to count on this audience that has followed her for so many years.
On May 21 (as well as on May 19 and 20), the Maroquinerie was sold out for this warm-up tour, or Before, as Zazie calls it. The idea of these three intimate Parisian concerts? To warm up and test the new songs on stage before going on tour in the four corners of France this summer, during festivals, then this fall, in the Zenith.
During a little more than an hour and a half of set, Zazie performed her songs, with her usual ease that would make many people jealous. Dressed in a very low-cut and transparent black top, it's at 8:10 pm that the singer takes the stage of the Maroquinerie with her four musicians, including the guitarist Édith Fambuena and the keyboard player Jean-Pierre Pilot.
As for the setlist, Zazie obviously honored her last opus,"Aile-P", by interpreting in particular " Ça commence ", " Couleur ", " Lève-toi " or " Gravité ". Songs that are easy to listen to, but do not unleash the passions either, except for the title " Gilles ", a real"release" song!
Other songs, less recent, also made their little effect, like the dark but very beautiful " Les contraires ", the catchy " Speed " without forgetting the sympathetic " Va chercher ", interpreted by a Zazie close to her audience, not hesitating to go around the room of the Maroquinerie.
But Zazie also wanted to please her long-time fans, by returning to some hits " from the ice age " as she says. And let's face it, these old songs inevitably provoked some cries of enthusiasm in the room, like the sublime " J'étais là ", the famous " Je suis un Homme ", the dynamic " Rue de la Paix ", the excellent " Rodéo " or the catchy " Des Rails " and " Oui ".
In the end, Zazie offered us an energetic and successful show, in a room of the Maroquinerie where it was quickly very hot. If the artist has this power to attract all the eyes, the musicians were unfortunately more in the shade, somewhat stuck on this small Parisian stage.
We also underline the beautiful light signed Andi Watson. Usually, the talented lighting engineer is used to bigger venues, since he has collaborated with Vanessa Paradis, Lenny Kravitz or Radiohead. Only that! But Andi Watson has also worked with Zazie for several years now. Faithful collaborator, the lighting engineer did not hesitate to make the trip to Paris to illuminate and sublimate the three shows of the artist at La Maroquinerie. An artist that the fans will be able to find at the Zenith of La Villette on October 13, 2023, and before that in festival, as in Nimes or in Lyon for the Nuits de Fourvière.
