If you watched the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, you couldn't have missed the reinterpretation of La Marseillaise by theDivertimento orchestra, conducted by Zahia Ziouani. A national anthem sublimated by these 70 passionate instrumentalists from national musical ensembles and conservatories, who regularly perform in concerts throughout Seine-Saint-Denis and the Île-de-France region, including Stains, where the orchestra has been in artistic residence since 2005.
After the entrance of Emmanuel Macron and Thomas Bach, the French flag was raised in this suspended moment, thanks to the rearrangement by Victor Le Masne, musical director of the ceremonies, accompanied by Army choirs and the emotion of the 71,500 spectators in the Stade de France.
Zahia Ziouani founded Divertimento in 1998, surrounded by students and young professionals whom she mentored at conservatories. The symphony orchestra offers some forty concerts a year on major national stages and at numerous festivals, with innovative, interdisciplinary musical projects that help spread the love of music to a diverse audience. Their interpretations contrast the great works of the 19th and 20th century repertoire with music from other cultures or other forms of expression.
