As last year, the 2024 festival will be held over three days at 360 Paris, the beating heart of the Goutte d'Or district. Musically, it will welcome three major musicians from the New Orleans scene, Darryl Montana, Chantz Powell and, once again, James Andrews. All three will be accompanied by France's leading brass band, the NOLA French Connection, whose music is nourished by numerous contacts with local musicians.
The distance between the Goutte d'Or and New Orleans is much shorter than it seems. Geographically separated by just under 8,000 kilometers, the two territories are nevertheless close in many ways. The Crescent City and the former commune of La Chapelle have both been lands of miscegenation from the outset, and over the years they have been nourished by the different waves of immigration they have received, whose influences have fed the local culture with different strata perceptible in music, gastronomy, fashion and architecture.
Founded in 2023, the Jazz Nouvelle-Orléans à la Goutte d'Or festival, hosted by the Au Fil des Voix association and presented by the New Orleans Jazz Museum at 360 Paris and surrounding areas, is designed to celebrate this natural fraternity.
The program includes concerts, masterclasses, culinary experiences, a film screening (the documentary Street Beat - Drumming Below Sea Level, devoted to drumming in New Orleans), a Second Line parade through the neighborhood with the participation of the Aubervilliers collective Cap to NOLA Brass Band, and workshops for children.
The second edition takes a broader look, focusing in particular on the world of Mardi Gras Indians, sometimes also known as Black-Masking Indians.
From Friday September 20 to Sunday September 22, discover the culture of New Orleans through music.
