It's back to school time, and new artistic creations are arriving in the capital. Such is the case with Dance me - music by Leonard Cohen, a jazz ballet to be discovered at the Théâtre du Châtelet from September 27 to October 5, 2024.

A new season begins at the Théâtre du Châtelet, and audiences will be treated to Dance me - music by Leonard Cohen from September 27 to October 5, 2024. On stage, the artists of Ballets de Jazz de Montréal take you along in a contemporary work set to the music of the famous Leonard Cohen.

The dance show, inspired by the works of the Canadian-born poet, artist and songwriter, features 14 Ballets Jazz Montréal dancers performing to 16 of his songs between 1967 and 2016, and will be performed for the first time at the Théâtre du Châtelet . Created in 2017, the show evokes the great cycles of existence through choreographic writing by three internationally renowned artists: Andonis Foniadakis, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Ihsan Rustem. Dance me - music by Leonard Cohen has now become a signature work for the Ballets Jazz Montréal dance company , under the direction ofAlexandra Damiani.

Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer, songwriter and poet, born in 1934 in Montreal and died in 2016. Dance me - music by Léonard Cohen was approved by the artist during his lifetime. Known for his deep, gravelly voice and introspective, poetic lyrics, Cohen left his mark on folk and pop music with iconic songs such as Hallelujah, Suzanne and Bird on the Wire, which are, of course, included in the dance show performed from September 27 to October 5 at the Théâtre du Châtelet.

Our review:

Breathtaking! The Ballets Jazz Montréal troupe and its three choreographers unveil a magical, subtle show set to the iconic music of Leonard Cohen. In several tableaux, representing different moments in Leonard Cohen's career, the dancers link acrobatics, lifts and spectacular choreography. The 14-strong troupe (7 men, 7 women) pays tribute to the music of Leonard Cohen with Suzanne, Hallelujah and Dance Me to the End of Love.

Dance Me is also transformed into a musical show, with two songs sung live by two of the dancers. A moment out of time! A successful challenge, thanks to impressive technical mastery, modern lighting effects and music we never tire of listening to, all in the magnificent Théâtre du Chatelet.
