When two siblings and artists meet for a very unique exhibition… This is what the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles set in Paris offers with Démons et Merveilles (Critique de la raison pure), an exhibition displaying filmmaker Olivier Smolders and his plastic artist brother Quentin Smolders’ work, from January 24 to March 1, 2020. An exhibition invites visitors to dive into their passion for “picture, random facts, extravagant texts and cabinet of curiosities”.
Photographs, monotypes, collages, screenings and texts speak together about one topic: Demons and Wonders. Two artists that have been mixing for over thirty years “their plumes, brushes, silver salt and other acacia gums” and regularly working on various movie, book and other work projects.
The exhibition offers a selection of titles from Olivier Smolder’s filmography that will be the common thread.
At the same time, it provides a tour revolving around a selection of works by Quentin Smolders answering the movies displayed.
The exhibition is also accompanied by the “Pleins feux sur Olivier Smolders” cycle – running from January 23 to 28, 2020. This cycle invites you to discover all the movies, “deployed around a movie class and a carte blanche”. The occasion to discover “the particularity of these parallel universes that bring to the world a look both serious and amused”. Let’s go, friends, shall we?
