Contemporary artist JR once again shows his commitment by revealing a new work in Paris 16th arrondissement. JR covered the walls of the Palais d'Iéna rotunda with 150 pictures, black and white pictures of unknown people. To see for free until April 5, this installation is deeper than it looks.
JR took the picture of 150 members hosting the Citizens Convention for Ecological Transition. This convention aims at finding a solution in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These unknown people of all ages and backgrounds are the symbols of a citizen and participative fight for the climate. The French artist reminds us of that committing for the environment within everyone’s grasp.
This project is part of the Inside Out initiative that takes place since 2011 in 129 countries. JR wants to promote citizens of all the countries in the world that commit and take action for a cause. The contemporary artist hopes these faces will inspire other people and encourage them to “transform the world”.
If the Palais d’Iéna has been chosen to house the exhibition, it’s that it’s the headquarters of the French Economic, Social and Environmental Council. Enjoy JR’s installation to visit this wonderful building. Tours are organized by groups of at least 10 people, but it’s still possible to join a group if you are on your own or if you have a small group.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
