A naturalist artist close to his chosen field... The Musée Jacquemart André invites lovers of Nordic art to discover an exhibition of works by Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela from March 11 to July 25, 2022. This retrospective, the second in Paris following the major exhibition devoted to the artist at the Musée d'Orsay in 2012, explores"a dominant aspect of his work and one that runs through his entire career", namely "the theme of Finnish nature and landscape".
Clouds reflecting on water, cottony snow... Nature predominates in his work and, like an Impressionist, he sublimates its forms with an incomparable, almost esoteric lyricism. An artist who also turns his back on urban modernity, anchoring his work"in a wilderness of majestic beauty, following the shimmering unfolding of the seasons, taking as his motif the dense forests and countless lakes of Finland".
In all, some 70 works from public and private collections, including several paintings from the Gallen-Kallela Museum in Espoo, are brought together here. The idea behind this exhibition:"to explore in greater depth the question of the artist's relationship with nature, which evolves over the course of his career". In short, a must-see for all lovers of nature and Scandinavian landscapes... Shall we set off to discover the works of Gallen-Kallela, my friends?
