A major retrospective devoted to one of the greatest artists of the contemporary scene... This is what the Palais de Tokyo is offering you with its latest exhibition, Ma Pensée Sérielle, around the works of Miriam Cahn, from February 17 to May 14, 2023. An exhibition that updates the prolific career of Miriam Cahn, with more than 200 works presented to visitors, ranging from the 1980s to today.
An artist shaped by the emergence of second-wave feminism who "invents new plastic incarnations of what disturbs us", who "nevertheless faces us, looks us straight in the eyes, in a body to body from which we cannot escape". This one thus surfs on this embarrassment through works at the same time obsessive and ambiguous, around various subjects lending themselves to it, like the political current events or the news. Sex, rape, his own menstrual cycle... Nothing is spared to us, for a dive as violent as colored in his universe.
His artistic practice also confronts "the materiality of the body and confronts us with socio-political concerns present in the news". And at the heart of his work, among the latest works created, canvases revealing the massacre of Boutcha, as well as the rapes of Ukrainian women, which occurred in late February-early March 2022, witnessing the horror and discomfort that the artist wants to arouse, for a good reason.
Drawing, photography, videos, writing ... so many artistic media to express themselves, putting on pause "a quasi-organic flow of images, sometimes organized as in a story, in a writing that refuses any linearity in favor of explosive clusters and escapes, allowing a rereading of the categories of art history. Miriam Cahn thus draws up "a range of contemporary images of our humanity and introduces reflections on systems of violence, power, nuclear energy, feminism or sexuality". And the opportunity to discover this titanic artistic work!
