Over the past few years, climate change has become increasingly present in our daily lives: flooding in France, repeated heatwaves, fires, drought... And, according to the latest IPCC reports, there's no end in sight to these disasters; on the contrary, they're set to multiply. With this in mind, the Cité des Sciences has come up with a new exhibition, curated by paleoclimatologist Jean Louzel, to provide the tools and decrypt the information to make it accessible to the general public, teenagers and adults alike(aged 15 and over).
In the face of climate disruption, it's all the more important to rethink our relationship with the world, our consumption patterns and to adopt solutions: Urgence climatique explores the solutions we could put in place to encourage decarbonization and stop polluting so much, with sobriety at the heart of it all.
Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie: scientific discoveries and fun for all the family
The Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is packed with fun and educational exhibitions for the whole family to discover, in the heart of the Parc de la Villette. It's the perfect place to learn all about the world around us! [Read more]
The tour is divided into three sections: Decarbonize, Anticipate, Act, and details each axis using devices, data and interviews. Despite the seriousness of the subject, the exhibition is neither moralistic nor defeatist. On the contrary, it proposes and suggests numerous solutions, both within our individual reach and on a collective scale. An activity booklet is available (from age 9), to help you put into practice at home how to adopt a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
Our opinion:
Installed for ten years, Urgence climatique is first and foremost an opportunity to become aware of the impact of our lifestyles: food, fashion, means of transport... Did you know, for example, that the city of Paris alone is responsible for around 70% of our country's carbon emissions? The idea behind this exhibition is to imagine the worst possible scenarios (+3 or 4 degrees by 2100) but, rather than frightening people, to propose solutions for reducing our carbon impact on a local scale. The Cité des Sciences has understood this perfectly, with an exhibition that is far from moralizing. On the contrary, it proposes numerous solutions for taking action in our own homes and habits, or by getting involved in the environmental struggle, so that we too can have an impact.
The exhibition is playful, interactive, but above all educational: with simulations and various installations, the visuals are clear and understandable at first glance. If the whole family can discover it, it is nonetheless
.
At the moment, temporary exhibitions at the Cité des Sciences also explore Metamorphoses, Crowd movements, Cancer... We warned you, there's always something (tons of things) to do at the Cité des Sciences!
