"And they lived happily ever after..." Really? Discover Dina Goldstein's Disenchanted Realities: photographs with a sharp, offbeat sense of humor, revealing what lies behind the promises of fairy tales.
The artist is exhibiting 33 photographs at the Studio Idan art gallery, from November 9 to 30, 2023. It's a chance for us to discover this Canadian photographer who plays with clichés, stereotypes and popular icons, the better to denounce society's excesses. Thefree exhibition combines three different collections: "In The Dollhouse", "Fallen Princesses" and "Gods of Suburbia".
Through these three projects, Dina Goldstein shatters illusions, using caricature and satire to tell new stories and legends - more modern, but also more terrible.
In her pink world, Barbie finds herself lonely and deceived: the flame of love has gone out. The famous princesses of our childhood are also suffering the afflictions of this modern world: plastic surgery, alcohol, fast food... The dream life seems to have flown far away. And what about Santa Claus or Darwin, lost in this dark urban world?
Loneliness, addictions, lack of love, nature and naturalness: the photographer points the finger at many of the shortcomings of our urban societies and behaviors. The contrast between these colorful characters, associated with positive images and values, in these sad worlds makes us laugh as much as it makes us think.
This November, don't miss this free and astonishing exhibition at Studio Idan.
